“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”
― Roy T. Bennett
Looking at your current situation in life, health status, education, career, relationship status, etc. can you identify any aspect of it or any outcomes that didn’t have your hand in it? I doubt. By your hand, I mean the involvement of your decisions or choices. Even when circumstances become unfortunate, you can always trace it back to a choice you made, and that is a show of how powerful our choices are.
Your choice is a judgment you make or decision you take concerning a situation that presents you with more than one course of action and has an endless possibility of outcomes. A choice is a function of the mind because every decision you make is a conclusion of your thoughts concerning a situation.
Your choice can make or mar you: Since choices have consequences, it is also safe to say that making a right or poor choice will most likely yield a good reward or bad consequence, respectively. After all, what goes around, comes around. For example, putting your money in an investment is a choice, and while it may pose some risks, putting it in the right stocks means a big payday. Even if you break even or run at a loss, you are one step ahead of someone who hasn’t and a step closer to being an investment expert. However, if you choose not to invest, you would have lost both sides; no knowledge gained and no possibility of a payday. Only expenses, which, if not curbed, leads to debt.
Your choice determines your environment: Your choice affects every aspect of your environment literally. Your environment consists of the physical space and the people around you, and your choices determine what constitutes both. For example, if your choice is the pursuit of knowledge, and for that, you commit yourself to read books, you will realize that over the next five months, the people close to you, those on your speed dial, will comprise most of the people that facilitate your reading.
Your choices determine subsequent choices: Almost everyone must have had a taste of this point, and it comes in different forms. For example, having to tell more lies to cover up a lie (the first wrong choice), battling addiction because you asked Mr. Liquor for help when you wanted to let go of some stress a few years back, etc.
For a parting note, don’t ever buy-in to “I didn’t have a choice.” There is always a choice for every situation that life presents you with; the only issue is to be able to identify it at the right time before it is too late.
